The Gaj Grah Story: An Ego Cannot Attain God's Mercy

The Gaj Grah Story: An Ego Cannot Attain God's Mercy

On the path of devotion, the ego proves to be a person's biggest enemy. The more subservient a devotee is, the more dear he is to God. On the contrary, God stays far away from an egoistic person.

In this dirty world of butcher Brahm Kaal, vices are always present in living beings. When a seeker achieves some accomplishment by performing penance, then due to ignorance, he becomes arrogant of his powers, and this becomes the reason for his destruction. Attaining powers is not the sole purpose of human birth; rather, attaining salvation by showing true devotion to Almighty Kabir is the aim of human birth.

Regarding austerity that the seekers perform in Kaal's world, it has been mentioned in Sachhidanand Ghan Brahm’s speech

Tap se Raaj  raaj madhya  Manam| Janam teesre shookar swanam||

Meaning: With austerity, the Kingdom/ Power is attained, which results in the birth of arrogance.  Then in later births such being suffers in the life-form of an animal like pig, dog etc. That seeker/ devotee wastes his precious human birth.

It is also mentioned in Suksham Veda

Tapeshwari so Rajeshwari, Rajeshwari so Narkeshwari||

Meaning: The more the seeker performs austerity (Tapeshwari is considered the superior most ascetic), the more time he would rule as a King of a vast Kingdom (Rajeshwari). The more sins are incurred by a King. The more he would rule, the more time he would have to suffer in Hell (Narkeshwari). Such seekers waste their precious human life first, by doing hard penance, which is prohibited in scriptures and second, by ruling as a King.

This is the law of God because God does not like arrogance; rather, He is pleased with the servile spirit in His devotee who performs devotion to attain God and abandons materialistic comforts of Kaal’s realm.

In this revelatory article, we will prove the truth of these sacred verses mentioned in Suksham Veda, which highlights the very nature of great ascetics in Kaal's realm, deciphering the fact that God is not attained by an egoist, and finally, the being suffers in 84 lakhs life-forms.

The soul's true companion is God, and when the soul calls out to God with a desperate plea right from the heart, then God comes to help his beloved soul and provides him happiness. The same happened once with two ascetics named Haha and Huhu who, out of arrogance, suffered in the life-form of Gaj (Elephant) and Grah (Crocodile) because of the arbitrary worship they performed.  They were proud of their spiritual powers.

Let us proceed to know

  • What is the story of Gaj-Grah?
  • Why do Gaj-Grah fight?

A profound analysis has been done based on nectar sermons of Jagatguru Tatvdarshi Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj and the sacred book 'Mukti Bodh' in chapter ‘Sumiran Ka Ang, ' pages 29-34, written by him. The key points that will be discussed in this write-up are

  • Who were Haha and Huhu?

Who Were Haha And Huhu?

Haha-Huhu were two great ascetics who gained spiritual powers by performing austerity. They were proud of their devotion and accomplishments. Both the ascetics used to boast of their spiritual powers, each claiming that he had more powers than the other.

Advice of Triple Gods To Haha-Huhu

Haha-Huhu decided to take opinion regarding their supremacy from someone else; hence, they went to Shri Brahma Ji to know about the strength of their respective powers and asked Lord Brahma who among them possesses more powers. Shri Brahma Ji knew well that they have gained accomplishments and are like a snake who would sting if one is praised and proved more powerful than the other. Brahma Ji said ‘I remain busy in my work of creation. I advise you should go to Lord Indra since he obtains the throne of Heaven by doing penance. He will be able to answer you. ’

Haha and Huhu went to Lord Indra, who also diverted both to go and take advice on the same matter from Shri Vishnu Ji, fearing that they may get angry and curse him if any one is praised to be powerful than the other.

Both Haha and Huhu then went to Lord Vishnu, who also had the same fear as he had already suffered the curse of Shri Narad Muni. He suggested both to go to Lord Shiva, saying ‘he is an ascetic, he can tell correctly’.

Haha and Huhu then went to Shri Shiva/ Shankar Ji, who advised both of them to go to Matang Rishi on earth and get their problem solved.

Curse Of Matang Rishi To Haha-Huhu

Haha and Huhu went to meet Matang Rishi in his ashram. At that time, Sage Matang was immersed in penance for years. He used to live as an ascetic, as Avdhoot.

Note: Avdhoot does not wear anything except a loincloth (langot) on his body.

Matang Rishi was very bulky. He had a pot belly.

When Haha-Hoohoo went near Matang Rishi's ashram, seeing his fat body, Haha thought that the sage seemed like an elephant. Huhu thought that Rishi Ji seemed like a crocodile. Both ascetics went near Matang Rishi, bowed down to him and told their purpose of visit ‘Kindly tell us who among us has more spiritual powers?’

Sage Matang had gained one accomplishment by performing penance. It has been mentioned in Suksham Veda

Ek Siddhi mun vriti batave||

Sage Matang read the minds of both Haha and Huhu and got annoyed and cursed them, saying, 'You take this decision yourself. Whatever thought has come into your mind, may you take the same life form.

At that very moment, both of them left their bodies, meaning both died.

Note: Arrogance dominated in Sage Matang. Ideally, an ascetic should be quiet and humble by nature. Since his worship was against the scriptures, the vices in him did not go. This is the drawback of the worship in Brahm Kaal's realm. The vices do not subside.

Fight Between Gaj and Grah

With the curse of Sage Matang, the soul of Haha was born as an elephant (Gaj), and Huhu was born as a crocodile (Grah).

When both of them became adults, one day, Gaj (the elephant) went to the river to drink water, and Grah (the crocodile) caught his leg and started pulling him inside the water.

Gaj also showed his power and pulled Grah out of the water. The tug of war continued the whole day. Sometimes, the elephant would bring the crocodile out of the water; sometimes, the crocodile would pull the elephant into the water. In the evening, the crocodile would let go of the leg.

The next day, the elephant would go to the same place and used to test his strength by making the crocodile hold his leg. It is written in the Puranas that this war between Gaj-Grah continued for more than ten thousand years. The other elephants used to arrange food for Gaj. Gradually, the elephants' food in the nearby forest was finished. The fellow elephants used to bring food from far away and feed him. After a few days, those elephants also left him. Gaj, the elephant, became weak due to hunger.

On the other hand, Grah continued to eat fish as a result, he remained healthy. One day, the crocodile pulled the elephant deep into the water. Only the tip of the elephant's trunk was left out of the water. When the elephant saw his death, he called out to God in fear of death. Only so much time was left that the elephant's soul said 'R...’ that is, half Ram. That was a desperate plea of Gaj from the heart. He could only utter ‘R...’.

In saint's language, it's called 'Rarankar dhun' which means call to God with a unique yearning from heart.

Attainment of Heaven By Gaj And Grah

Almighty is the companion of the soul. At that very moment, God hit the Sudarshan Chakra on the head of Grah, the crocodile. The mouth of the crocodile opened, and the elephant came out of the water and stood on the ground. Then God appeared and said to the elephant (Gaj), You go to Heaven. You remembered me with true heart. You have taken my name with great pain.

The crocodile (Grah) said, ‘O Lord! As he had chanted your name with great pain, I have heard it with the same pain, but it was a matter of winning and losing.  Therefore, I wasn’t leaving. You are all-knowing and know what is in my mind. Do my welfare as well. ’

God sent both to Heaven. Later, both were reborn. They continued performing their practice again.

Why Gaj And Grah Failed To Attain Salvation?

The authentic holy scriptures like the pious Vedas and Shrimad Bhagavad Gita glorify the salvation provider God called Param Akshar Brahm, the creator of entire universes who created even the owner of 21 universes, which means Brahm Kaal. His qualities have been mentioned in Rigveda Mandal 9 Sukt 96 Mantra 18, Rigved Mandal 10 Sukt 4 Mantra 3, Rigveda Mandal 10 Sukt 90 Mantras 1- 5, Yajurved Adhyay 5 Mantra 1, 6, 8, Adhyay 1 Mantra 15, and Adhyay 7 Mantra 39, Atharvaveda Kand no 4 Anuvaak no 1 Mantra 7, Holy Srimad Bhagavad Gita 8:3, 15:4, 16,17 and 18:62.

The mantra to attain the Supreme God has been mentioned in Gita 17:23, and the orator of Gita tells in 18:64 that the same Purna Brahm is his venerable God.

Rigveda Mandal 9 Sukt 96 Mantra 17  tells His name is KavirDev.

Only the Satguru/ enlightened Saint provides the information about that supreme God and grants the true salvation mantra with which the eternal abode is attained.

Instead of performing severe austerity, if Gaj-Grah as ascetic Haha-Huhu would have done true devotion to Almighty Kabir, then they wouldn’t have suffered in the life of an elephant and crocodile rather would have attained salvation. But due to lack of true spiritual knowledge both remained deprived of attaining emancipation and remained a prey to Satan Kaal.

It has been mentioned in Suksham Veda

Haha-Hoohoo bande hote tolat hai balbhare|| Gaj aur Grah bane bharsatar, dus sahans adhikare||
Swans ghatya balheen bhaya jad khench diya majhdare||Ardh Naam rasna se tera,  sumirat hain Rarankare||

The Arbitrary conduct of Kaal's realm is exposed through the story of Gaj-Grah

The aforementioned exposes the wrong way of worship performed by ignorant seekers in Kaal's realm. The following has been interpreted from the story.

If the mantra of God is chanted with the same yearning, then a special benefit happens immediately. As the elephant uttered the name due to the fear of death. He was able to speak only ‘R..’. Then he would have drowned. Saints have called this ‘Rarankar dhun. ' Many saints give the Rarankar mantra in initiation to chant. That is not appropriate.

  1. As a saint preaches, that discourse glorifying the Almighty should be heard with special yearning. It has a deep impact on the listeners.  The listeners should also listen to Satsang with the same passion of Rarankar. With that, both the speaker and the listener get the equal benefit of ‘Gyan Yagya’.  Seekers who perform severe austerity do not attain salvation because doing penance is against the holy scriptures. It has been said in Gita Chapter 17, Verse 1-6, that ‘Seekers who do hard austerity renouncing the scriptural method are demonic. The nature of ascetics is also clear from the aforementioned true story that what nonsense came in the minds of Haha-Huhu? They wanted to examine the power of their spiritual strength. Seeing Matang Rishi's bulging fat body, they started finding fault with him.
  2. Humiliating God's creation is a mockery of the Almighty.  Instead of behaving with discretion, even Matang Rishi also acted according to his nature. He cursed both Haha-Huhu, due to which they obtained the life-form of an animal and aquatic animal.  They kept struggling for a thousand years. How much did they suffer?
  3. If Matang Rishi had explained to them that seekers the power is in Almighty rest we are His servant. As much labour  (practice) we do, He gives us that much wages means the devotional power (accomplishment). The seekers should not be proud of their powers. They should practice all through their life. Those devotees would have surely renounced their foolish motive and would have been saved from suffering by explaining it in this manner.  But neither the Guru nor the disciples had this wisdom. Then, this drama would continue.

Conclusion

With the true story of Gaj-Grah, it becomes clear that arrogance in the path of devotion becomes the reason for the destruction of beings. The seekers should quit meditation/ Hatha yoga/ severe austerity and do Sahaj samadhi/ simple meditation, which is a certified way of devotion described in holy scriptures which an enlightened saint provides.

Today, Jagatguru Tatvdarshi Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj is the only complete saint in this world who is telling the correct way of worship doing which seekers would attain emancipation. It is a humble request to all human beings on earth to immediately come into the shelter of the only living Satguru in the world and get safe from spoiling precious human birth and suffering like Haha (Gaj) and Huhu (Grah) and make your life successful.
